CERGE-EI was delighted to host the 30th prestigious Review of Economics Studies tour in May. The annual tour invites seven of the world’s most promising graduating doctoral students in economics and finance to present their research at 3 European venues. This year’s students hailed from Harvard, MIT, Princeton and Stanford. “The European audiences definitely brought a new perspective to my projects. Learning to see one’s own project through new eyes is definitely a very rewarding part of the REStud Tour”, commented MIT’s Ludwig Straub. Read more here

The finalists of this year’s New Economic Talent competition convened at CERGE-EI in early June to present their papers in front of the evaluation committee: visiting senior faculty members Gerard Roland (University of California, Berkeley) and Randall Filer (Hunter College and the Graduate Center, City University of New York) and CERGE-EI Associate Professor Filip Matejka. Since its inception, students have come to CERGE-EI from all the transition economies of the post-communist world. The countries of the South Caucasus are no exception, producing 24 of our graduates to date. We are delighted that our alumni are now having a very real impact. Such as Zurab Abramishvili (Ph.D 2017), Program Director of the new BA program at the International School of Economics in Tbilisi, Georgia. Or Gurgen Arslanyan (Ph.D 2014), President of the Armenian Economic Association. Additionally, this year 90 CERGE-EI Foundation Teaching Fellows have been teaching at 24 of the region’s universities.
