Effects of Labor Reallocation on Productivity and Inequality: Insights from Studies on Transition
JoannaTyrowicz, Lucas van der Velde, and Jan Švejnar
Does the rapid reallocation of labor affect productivity growth and the level of income inequality? The post-communist economic transition period in Central and Eastern Europe offers a rich source of data for study. Manipulation of Cursed Beliefs in Online Reviews
Ludmila Matysková and Jan Šípek
If you think consumer reviews help you make the best decisions at the supermarket, think again. According to Matysková and Šípek, reviews have the opposite effect. Fairness, Inequality, and Uncertainty
January 2017
Vítězslav Babický
Babický studies attitudes to risk, uncertainty and inequality, drawing on both theory and experiments with dictator and ultimatum games. He finds systematic and intuitive links between attitudes to fairness and risk. Risk-averse individuals are more averse to inequality. He also explores how non-pecuniary motives (reciprocity and risk aversion) influence willingness to contribute to public goods by paying taxes. Read more

Economics of Innovation
May 2017
Oleg Sidorkin
Sidorkin examines the impact of innovation and management quality on firm performance. Empirical analysis shows that cautious innovation prior to the 2008/2009 economic crisis positively affected firm survival rates, although overly-bold innovation had the opposite outcome. An examination of firm data in Eastern Europe and CIS countries links management quality to both innovation inputs and outputs. Read more
